Frequently asked questions
What is a security fog system?
It is an active security device that fills the protected space with dense fog within seconds of an unauthorised entry. Visibility drops to a matter of centimetres, so the intruder can neither find the target nor move through the space. An alarm reports the event; security fog changes its outcome.
How quickly does the fog spread?
The heat exchanger inside the unit is kept permanently hot, so the system does not wait to warm up — it discharges the instant it is triggered. The time to render the target volume unusable is measured in seconds. The exact figure depends on volume, ceiling height and the model chosen.
Is the fog harmful to health?
No. The fog is produced by vaporising a water-based glycol mixture; it is not a product of combustion, so it is vapour rather than smoke, and it is non-toxic to breathe. Even so, because it removes vision, systems are configured to operate only when the space is empty and all staff receive evacuation training.
Does it damage property, electronics or stock?
No. The fog is non-conductive and leaves neither condensation nor an oily film on surfaces. Computers, servers, textiles, jewellery and sealed food or pharmaceutical packaging are unaffected, and no special cleaning is needed after ventilation.
Will it work with my existing alarm system?
Yes. The system wires into your existing alarm panel and is triggered from its verified alarm output — you do not need to replace your alarm. We also make the fog status (armed / isolated / discharged) visible to the panel.
Could a false alarm discharge the fog?
The system is wired to a verified alarm condition rather than a single sensor — typically two independent detectors must agree. A keyed isolation and an entry delay are also configured. Together these layers keep the risk of accidental discharge to a minimum.
Will it trigger the fire alarm?
Optical smoke detectors can respond to the fog, so installation is coordinated with the fire detection system: detector type and placement are reviewed and, where necessary, the fire panel is informed of a discharge. A properly planned installation does not produce spurious fire alarms.
Does the system keep working during a power cut?
Yes. Systems are installed with battery backup and stay armed when mains power fails — critical protection against the scenario where power is cut before an attack.
How many discharges does one cartridge cover?
Fog generators are not single-shot; one cartridge covers several discharges, with capacity varying by model. At high-risk sites we treat cartridge capacity as a selection criterion so that protection continues after a first discharge.
How long does installation take — is building work needed?
Most shop, office and home installations are completed within one working day and need no building work. The unit is wall- or ceiling-mounted and wiring runs along the existing alarm cabling. Installation is usually done out of hours so your operation is not interrupted.
How much does it cost?
Price depends on the volume to protect, how the space is partitioned, the number of units and the installation conditions, which is why we do not publish a list price. After a free survey we provide an itemised quote specific to your site.
Do you provide service and maintenance in Türkiye?
Yes. Boldmirglass provides installation, periodic maintenance, cartridge supply and technical support across Türkiye. A fog generator is not fit-and-forget: periodic testing, cartridge checks and battery maintenance are all part of our maintenance plan.
